Logistics Specialist (Intermodal)

This position executes the logistics services we offer to our shipper and carrier customers. It is responsible for matching available shipments with carrier capacity and managing the process to completion. This is a critical position in building trust and value with our customers and managing our profitability. Our ability to develop carrier and shipper customers is greatly dependent on the performance of this position.

Duties (Customer Specialist):

As a Logistics Specialist at Bay and Bay Transportation Services you will help our customers move their inventory in the most cost effective way by identifying and providing logistics solutions. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of accounts while working in a team environment. Business is generated through inside and outside sales by way of industry referrals, prospecting and business to business selling. You will be addressing concerns and working with team members implementing solutions for both established, as well as prospective customers.

Daily Customer Specialist activities include

Phone and e-mail contact with customers to solicit available shipments and business opportunities.

· Registering customer orders (logistics needs) into our computer system with accurate, timely information.

· Advising customers, in a timely fashion of service updates.

· Maintain and issue reports required by the portfolio of customers assigned to you.

· Provide back up to fellow team members as needed.

· Assist in training new team members. 

Duties (Carrier Specialist):

As a Logistics Specialist at Bay and Bay Transportation Services you will help our customers move their inventory in the most cost effective way by identifying and providing logistics solutions. In this role you will be responsible for creating supply chain capacity for Customers and fellow team members. 

Daily Carrier Specialist activities include

· Phone and e-mail contact with carriers to secure supply chain capacity for shipments from our shipper customers.

· Negotiate rates and service with carriers so as to maximize profitability on each shipment while delivering on our service commitment to Customers.

· Registering accurate and timely shipment status information on each shipment in our computer system and communicate service updates to Customer Specialists.

· Issue complete, accurate and timely load confirmations to the carrier(s) on each shipment.

· Work cooperatively with team members on sharing available carrier capacity information.

· Provide pricing feedback to Pricing Manager to allow accurate rate guidelines for operations and sales staff.

· Comply with carrier screening and compliance policies.

· Provide back-up to fellow team members as needed.

· Assist in training new team members.

Education/Skills:         

· College degree (2 yr or 4 yr), in business, logistics or economics.

· Prior experience in a logistics role with a trucking company.

· Experience with Salesforce.

· Strong computer user skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Strong communications skills.

· Strong negotiating skills and persuasiveness.

· Competitive attitude and innovative nature.

· Enthusiasm and high energy.

· Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.

· Understanding of freight industry or logistics management is desirable.

· Ability to resolve problems.
