Claims Specialist

Full-Time | Eagan, MN, US

Bay and Bay Transportation is seeking a full-time Accident Claims Specialist who will investigate insurance claims, and coordinate with insurance companies to resolve claims. The Accident Claims Specialist will also intake claims, exam claims, consult with appropriate personnel, explain procedures of accident claims, transmit routine claims for payment, report claims findings and keep the Senior Claims Manager and Director of Safety informed of claims status.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manages and directs actions and next steps on all types of transportation insurance to include:  physical damage and liability claims
  • Determines covered insurance losses by studying provisions of a policy or certificate.  This includes physical damage, liability, and cargo  
  • Establishes proof of loss by studying documentation and assembling additional information from outside sources.
  • Documents specific claims by completing and recording forms, reports, logs, and records and review documents to determine next steps to settle cases or close files. 
  • Analyzes insurance claims to prevent fraud.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.        
  • Bi-Weekly claims reviews for reserves and understanding the potential cost of the claim and company responsibility. Communicates and provides claim updates and reporting to Senior Claims Manager.  
  • Resolves claims by approving or denying documentation, calculating benefits due, and determining compensation settlement.
  • Ensures legal compliance by following company policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as state and federal insurance regulations.  
  • Manages all insurance cases, works with all needed parties to include operations, customer service, insurance, attorneys, experts, third party administrators, etc.
  • Timely escalate cases with legal representation to Senior Claims Manager for appropriate jurisdiction assignment.  
  • Protects the company and its team by keeping claims information confidential.
  • Maintains a good relationship with insurance companies, outside vendors, and third-party administrators.
  • Prepare material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.  Participates in any of these including settlements as needed.  
  • Manage and support drug and alcohol post-accident testing working in partnership with the Third-Party Administrator. 

Requirements include:

  • Extensive knowledge of insurance-relation policies and legislation
  • 5 plus years claim management experience in transportation
  • Proficient in analytical math
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
