What is Safe Driver Week?

An outreach program called Operation Safe Driver Week promotes safe driving and works to change people’s driving habits. With a focus on speeding, this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week will run from July 9 through July 15, 2023. Statistics show drivers’ acts or inactions cause 94% of collisions.

Safe Driver Week Breakdown

Operation Safe Driver checklists include the following sections to evaluate if the drivers are following the road laws:

  • Increasing traffic enforcement for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles
  • Roadside driver examinations and the wearing of safety belts
  • Improving driver adherence to regulations
  • Implementing instructional and awareness-raising initiatives for commercial drivers with trucking companies
  • Educating children on how to share the road with big rigs and buses safely.
  • Raising knowledge of safe operations near commercial motor vehicles among the general driving public

What Do Law Enforcement Officers Stop Truck Drivers For?

Law enforcement officers will be on the watch for drivers of commercial motor vehicles and drivers of passenger vehicles who exhibit risky driving habits, so drivers should be aware of this. Expect law enforcement to stop drivers who are speeding, being aggressive or distracted while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, disobeying traffic signs, following too closely, or driving while intoxicated or high.

How Can Truckers Take Part in Safe Driver Week?

Truck drivers may contribute to the safety of our roads by always abiding by the following advice to reduce the risks of aggressive driving:

  • Make sure you have enough time to arrive at the destination safely.
  • Comply with all established speed limits, and slow down as necessary.
  • Avoid using your horn or making vulgar gestures when you are angry.
  • Do not irritate other motorists.
  • Keep in mind the three Bs: be polite, be patient, and be forgiving.
  • Buckle up. Belts in cars save lives.

The Bottom Line

Police departments and transportation safety community representatives will watch out for people speeding on the roads during Operation Safe Driver Week. They will detect dangerous drivers and issue warnings or tickets.

Bay & Bay ensure their truck drivers comply with all the traffic rules and obey the road laws. We guarantee that our drivers maintain safe distances from other vehicles while ensuring safe driving.
